We want to say a special thank you to the patients, fundraisers and staff who have helped us achieve great things to improve cancer care in Bristol and Weston-super-Mare. We would also like to reflect and remember those that are no longer with us. If you'd like to make a dedication to someone special, you can share a message, memory or photo on our Tie A Ribbon In Memory page. Tie a Ribbon for a loved one THE GREAT THINGS YOU'VE HELPED FUND Many cancer patients require lengthy treatment and hospital stays, so the hospital surroundings make a huge difference to their experience and general wellbeing. It's been our mission to bring comfort and hope to patients and their families across the region by funding both the big and little things that make a difference. Some of the big projects we've been able to fund include: The refurbishment of the haematology unit at Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre The creation of the first adult bone marrow transplant (BMT) unit in the South West so seriously ill patients can have all their treatment under one roof and not have to visit multiple hospital sites. Expanded the outpatients department and refurbished waiting areas, clinic spaces and created new consulting rooms, to offer patients more privacy and dignity. Created dedicated spaces for supportive services such as nurse specialists, counselling services and specialist psychological treatments. Rosemary Hopkins, BWHC supporter and patient at Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre said: The new bone marrow transplant ward is just beautiful. It’s so light and airy and the private rooms make a huge difference when you’re having bone marrow biopsies. Previously, I had them on the old ward with lots of other patients who were having chemotherapy and other treatments so knowing I had my own space provided a great comfort. The little things have also made a big difference too. From providing new reclining chemotherapy chairs and Readybed Sleeper Chairs for BHOC to helping us fund valuable services such as the cancer support for patients with metastatic breast cancer patients. Together we've achieved great things to help make cancer care the best it can be in Bristol and Weston-super-Mare. The South West has a growing and ageing population, as well as an increasing number of cancer survivors who often present with haematological conditions, which means demand for these facilities and services will continue to grow. With your help, we will continue to support our hospitals ensuring they have world-class facilities and funding for pioneering research, the very best equipment and treatment options, and welcoming, comfortable environments. If you'd like to support our ongoing work, find out how you can get involved or make a donation today.
