Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre (BHOC) provides specialist non-surgical treatments for people with cancer, and for people who require specialist radiotherapy or haematology services. The three main specialities are oncology, haematology, and palliative care. 

As well as being the cancer treatment centre for Avon and Somerset, the BHOC provides specialist services to people from across the South West and beyond. The hospital also provides chemotherapy in the community, an initiative supported by Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity.

• It costs £1,128 to care for one patient for one day in the BHOC
• Each year the BHOC treats nearly 70,000 patients
• The BHOC is part of the Avon, Somerset and Wiltshire Cancer Research Network, which help patients learn about new clinical trials, provide information and support for patients and their families
• The hospital is the only Comprehensive Care Centre for Haemophilia in the South West.
   

What we have funded

In 2014, the BHOC was transformed thanks to the £6m Golden Gift Appeal. This included the creation of the first adult bone marrow transplant (BMT) unit in the South West and refurbishment of the haematology unit, which cares for patients with blood cancers and other non-cancer blood disorders. 

In 2009 the CaRE Appeal helped to upgrade the 40-year old hospital to create a modern, warm and welcoming care environment. The main reception area was transformed, and services brought together to offer patients and visitors a sense of holistic care. Dedicated space for supportive services - including nurse specialists, counselling services and specialist psychological treatments was also created in both reception and outpatient areas.
